We were recently commissioned to supply and install a Charnwood Canmore 5 wood burning stove at a residential property in East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire.

The installation included a bespoke brick slip chamber built around the fireplace opening and a large format limestone slab hearth, creating a finished fireplace that is every bit as much a considered design feature as it is a practical heat source.

The result is a beautifully composed installation that brings real warmth and character to the room.

The Stove: Charnwood Canmore 5

The Charnwood Canmore 5 is a wood burning stove from one of the UK's most respected stove manufacturers. Charnwood (based on the Isle of Wight) have been producing high-quality stoves for decades and the Canmore range sits comfortably within their lineup as a clean-lined, contemporary model with a wide landscape-format viewing window that gives an excellent view of the fire within.

The Canmore 5 is an Ecodesign Ready stove, meeting the strict emissions and efficiency standards that represent the highest level of performance currently available in domestic wood burning appliances.

It burns cleanly, produces a strong heat output and operates efficiently, making the most of every log placed inside. The large glass front and matt black finish give the stove a bold, modern profile that works beautifully against the exposed brick slip chamber surrounding it in this installation.

The Brick Slip Chamber

As the images show, the fireplace opening has been finished with a hand-laid brick slip chamber, with traditional red brick slips covering the back wall and both side reveals of the recess.

The brick slips have a reclaimed appearance, with warm red, brown and charcoal tones that give the chamber a genuinely aged, characterful feel rather than looking like a modern imitation.

The exposed brick finish provides a striking contrast against the clean, white plastered wall above and the painted white reveals either side of the opening, framing the stove and giving the fireplace feature a grounded, traditional quality that suits the property well.

The hearth for this installation is a large format limestone slab in a warm natural stone finish, extending generously outward from the fireplace opening across the oak-effect floor beyond.

The limestone has been laid in two sections, with a clean joint running across the centre of the hearth, and the natural variation in tone and texture of the stone adds another layer of warmth and character to the finished feature.

The hearth provides the required non-combustible surface beneath and in front of the stove in accordance with building regulations, whilst also completing the aesthetic of the installation in a considered and cohesive way.
