We were recently commissioned to supply and install a Jøtul F350 wood burning stove with log stand at a residential property in Saxelby, Leicestershire.

The property had no existing chimney, so the installation required a fully insulated twin-wall flue system running from the stove outlet up through the ceiling and out through the roof above.

The finished result is a beautifully clean, modern installation that makes an immediate visual impact.

The Stove - Jøtul F350

The Jøtul F350 is a contemporary freestanding wood burning stove from Jøtul, the world-renowned Norwegian stove manufacturer with a heritage stretching back to 1853.

Jøtul are one of the most respected names in the stove industry worldwide, and the F350 is a superb example of their design philosophy:  clean, architectural lines combined with outstanding combustion performance and exceptional build quality.

The F350 has a distinctively modern profile, with a wide, landscape-format viewing window that gives an impressive view of the fire within.

The stove is finished in a matt black coating that sits beautifully against a white-painted wall, and the integrated log stand beneath the firebox adds both practicality and a considered design detail that gives the stove a more substantial, furniture-like presence in the room.

 It is a stove that works equally well as a heating appliance and as a design statement.

Ecodesign Ready

The Jøtul F350 is Ecodesign Ready, meaning it meets the strict European emissions and efficiency standards that came into force in 2022.

For homeowners, this means choosing a stove that burns cleanly and efficiently, releasing significantly lower levels of particulate matter than older stove designs, and making the most of every piece of wood that goes into the firebox.

The Insulated Flue System

Because this property had no existing chimney, the stove required a purpose-built insulated twin-wall flue system to carry the combustion gases safely out of the building.

As visible in the images, the flue pipe rises vertically from the top outlet of the stove in a single clean run, passing through the ceiling via a neatly fitted square ceiling plate and continuing up through the roof above.

Why Insulated Twin-Wall Flue?

Insulated twin-wall flue systems are the correct and most widely used solution for stove installations in properties without a traditional chimney.

The system consists of an inner stainless steel liner surrounded by a layer of insulation and an outer casing, all working together to maintain high flue gas temperatures throughout the run.

Keeping the flue gases hot is important because it produces a strong, consistent draw through the stove, making it easier to light, better performing and less likely to suffer from the condensation and creosote build-up that can occur in cold or poorly insulated flue runs.

The single-run vertical installation visible here is the ideal configuration wherever the layout of the building allows for it, producing the strongest possible draw and the neatest aesthetic result.

The Hearth

The stove sits on a large format square black steel hearth pad, which provides the required non-combustible surface beneath and around the appliance in accordance with building regulations. The clean matt black of the hearth pad ties perfectly with the stove finish, giving the whole installation a cohesive, considered look from floor to ceiling.

The Finished Installation

The images show the stove positioned against a freshly plastered and painted white wall, with the surrounding room clearly in the later stages of a renovation.

The simplicity of the setting makes the stove itself the undisputed focal point of the room, with the tall, slender flue pipe rising dramatically to the ceiling plate above and the wide viewing window of the F350 drawing the eye at eye level.
