Oxley's Installations recently completed a wood burning stove installation for a customer in Hickling, Nottinghamshire. This project featured a Clockwork Blithfield Compact Stove, fitted with a high-quality insulated flue system and complemented by a bespoke log stand crafted specifically for the installation.
The Clockwork Blithfield Compact Stove is an excellent choice for homeowners seeking a high-quality wood burning stove that combines traditional appearance with modern efficiency. This popular model offers outstanding performance in a compact format.
Despite its compact size, the Blithfield delivers impressive heat output, capable of warming rooms effectively whilst maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. The stove incorporates advanced clean burn technology, resulting in more complete combustion of the wood fuel. This produces less smoke and emissions whilst extracting maximum heat from every log.
The stove features an effective airwash system that keeps the glass door clear, allowing you to enjoy the dancing flames without the glass becoming obscured by soot deposits. Built to exacting standards with quality materials, the Blithfield Compact is designed for longevity.
For this Hickling installation, we fitted a high-quality insulated flue system, an essential component for safe, efficient stove operation.
An insulated flue consists of two stainless steel walls with insulation material between them. This construction maintains higher flue gas temperatures throughout the flue's length, improving draw and reducing condensation problems.
The insulation keeps flue gases hot, creating a strong and consistent draw. When flue gases cool too quickly, moisture condenses inside the flue, creating corrosive tar deposits. Insulated flues maintain higher temperatures, minimising condensation and keeping the flue cleaner.
Insulated flue systems can be installed externally, making them ideal for properties without existing chimneys or where internal flue routes are impractical. The insulation provides a thermal barrier, keeping the outer skin of the flue cooler and safer.
To complement the Blithfield Compact installation, we created a bespoke log stand specifically designed for our customer. Having logs conveniently stored next to your stove makes operation easier and more enjoyable.
We designed the log stand to complement the stove and the overall aesthetic of the room. Keeping logs near the stove allows them to dry further before burning. Wood burns most efficiently when properly seasoned with low moisture content.
Our HETAS-approved installation followed a structured process. Before commencing work, we visited our customer's property in Hickling to assess the installation location, discuss their requirements and provide expert advice.
We protected all furniture and flooring with dust sheets. Any necessary building work, including creating the hearth base and preparing surfaces for the flue installation, was completed to a high standard.
We constructed a suitable hearth that provides adequate protection for the floor beneath and around the stove. We installed the insulated flue system according to manufacturer specifications and building regulations.
The Clockwork Blithfield Compact Stove was positioned carefully on the prepared hearth, connected securely to the flue system and sealed properly. The bespoke log stand was crafted to our customer's specific requirements and installed in the optimal position near the stove.
Once installation was complete, we thoroughly tested the system. We lit the stove and verified proper draw, checked for any smoke leakage, and made certain the airwash system was functioning correctly.
As with all our wood burning stove installations, we provided a certificate of compliance and data plate, demonstrating that the installation meets all legal requirements and building regulations.
