We were recently commissioned to supply and install a Charnwood Blithfield double-sided wood burning stove at a beautiful property in Upper Broughton, in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire.

This was a particularly special project, with the stove installed within a double-sided chimney breast so that it can be enjoyed from two separate rooms simultaneously.

The finished result is a genuinely stunning centrepiece that brings warmth, character and a real focal point to both spaces.

The Charnwood Blithfield Double-Sided Stove

The Charnwood Blithfield is a premium double-sided wood burning stove from one of the UK's most respected stove manufacturers. Charnwood are a British brand with a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality, beautifully crafted stoves that combine outstanding performance with elegant, timeless design.

The Blithfield model is designed specifically for double-sided installations, making it the ideal choice for a chimney breast that serves two adjoining rooms, giving the homeowners the warmth and ambience of a real fire from both sides of the feature.

Why Choose A Double-Sided Stove?

A double-sided stove is a wonderful option for properties where an open-plan layout or two adjoining living spaces share a chimney breast.

Rather than committing the heat and visual appeal of a stove to just one room, a double-sided installation allows both spaces to benefit equally, creating a truly dramatic architectural feature that draws the eye from every angle.

It is the kind of installation that transforms a chimney breast from a functional element into an absolute statement piece within the home.

The Hearth & Surround

The hearth for this installation is one of the most striking features of the finished project.

A raised chequerboard tiled hearth in bold charcoal grey and olive green square ceramic tiles has been laid across the full floor area within the fireplace opening, stepping outward in front of the stove to create a generous hearth pad that sits beautifully against the natural oak flooring of the surrounding room.

The colour combination is bold and confident, complementing the matt black finish of the Charnwood Blithfield stove perfectly.

The surround itself has been cleanly plastered and finished in a soft white paint, giving the feature a crisp, contemporary look that sits very comfortably within the character of this older property.

Two Sides, Two Characters

One of the most pleasing aspects of this installation is the way the two sides of the feature have been finished differently, giving each room its own distinct character whilst sharing the same stove at the heart of the feature. The front aspect features a generous chunky natural oak beam mantel above the opening, giving that side a warm, rustic quality.

The reverse side, visible from the adjoining room, has a rough-hewn natural stone lintel in its place, lending a more raw, textural feel to the feature. The result is that both rooms have something individual and special about their view of the stove, rather than simply being mirror images of each other.
